Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center
The Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center is a joint project between the City of Mesa and Arizona State University that will house Herberger Institute of Design and the Arts academic programs related to digital and sensory technology, entrepreneurial support, experience design, film production, and immersive media.
The City of Mesa seeks to enhance higher education and innovation infrastructure with greater access to higher-education programs for residents, increased activity in downtown Mesa, and leveraging its investment in light-rail transportation and Mesa Arts Center.
The nearly 118,000-square-foot building is expected to draw more than 750 ASU students, faculty and staff to downtown Mesa. Large program areas include an enhanced-immersion studio, four sound stages, a 280-seat screening theater and an 80-seat screening room. The building also contains high-tech sound-recording studios, control rooms, display areas, editing rooms, classrooms, and office-support spaces, as well as a sizeable high-resolution screen on the exterior of the building.
In addition to the ASU facility, a large plaza will be constructed to the south for community events.
